Jio (experts views)

"The aggressive price wars by
incumbents could push Jio to persist
with freebies"

Jio. For most, the name brings thoughts of free-flowing superfast data, lifetime free voice calls and other digital goodies available on your smartphone, all without spending a single rupee. The frustration resulting from the numerous call drops is hard to ignore too. The fact is, the Indian telecom industry isn't the same as it was a few months ago.

Reliance Jio's freebies (including free 4G data, free voice calls, free access to premium content etc), which started as the Preview offer, continued with the Welcome Offer , and are still available as part of the Happy New Year offer , have turned the industry on its head. Incumbent telecom operators, however,
aren't sitting idle, and a are countering the competition with their own offers.

The most recent salvos from the likes of Airtel, Vodafone and Idea include special tariff plans that include free voice calls and data benefits.
As per a report from ET, analysts feel
that the a aggressive tariff plans from incumbents and their strong reply to the competition from Jio could result in Reliance extending the freebies beyond March 31st, 2017. which is the date when the current Happy New Year offer is due to end.
